I said 'not necessarily'. It's very likely of little importance with a losing gambler. As I say, other factors are usually the bigger reasons.

>>> So, if he tipped Liverpool to beat West Ham last week and lost half a million, it wouldn't have been due to his inability to judge how a football match is going to end up?

On a very superficial level. But who in their right mind would have judged West Ham more likely to win that match? Just picking a likely winner is the least relevant issue really.

If he's losing half a million on one match bet a massive issue would likely be bankroll management. You could be the best judge of football on Earth and you will go broke betting amounts like that (unless you have a strong multi-million bankroll).

The ignorance of the general public on issues like this is bewildering imo. I think it should be taught in schools (risk management, not 'gambling').

Not necessarily ever a reflection of whether they can judge events rightly or wrongly.

Re: Merson's transfer ratings
Gamblers lose money because they gamble, simple as that.

Eliminate or mitigate the risk and it does not become a gamble anymore. That's how to make money.

Like rigging Libor is much better than taking a punt on it.

Mersin has an addictive personality. In addition to being a bit thick.

OK, think I've got that now, Alex.

Gamblers lose money because of bankroll mismanagement, lack of organisation, poor game selection, tilt, lifestyle choices etc. Not necessarily ever a reflection of whether they can judge events rightly or wrongly.

Pedantic point to make, but important to me.

Paul Merson - football expert and columnist.

The same football expert that lost millions gambling on football results.

Something I'm sure Merson wishes he did when he used his football punditry "skills" to fritter away 7 million quid by getting it wrong

His reasoning in the article is quite reasonable imo.

I like that he's willing to put his predictions out there. Brave or stupid, as a pundit - most will just hedge their bets.

Feel sorry for Arsenal fans?
Successive FA Cup wins and Champions league football for 18 seasons.
CUNTS DONT KNOW THEY ARE BORN

As I've said before it they had had the last 20 years that we have they'd be playing in front of 10,000.

Anyway, yes, Merson's ratings were ridiculous. He gave nearly every club either a B+, B, or B-. Make your bloody mind up you oaf.

And if he couldn't tell the difference between Arsenal or Tottenham's windows and ours then he really is - "for me" - a "worldy-class" oaf.

Yeah!
Must be fucking terrible supporting a team that challenges for the title nearly every year and gets to a cup final on a regular basis.

i agree- especially in recent years. However, I do know a couple of genuine die hards (amongst the BUCKETS of 'hobbyists' I also know) who still somehow just afford season tickets.

It's them I feel for. It really hits them hard in the pocket following that club, as they are not big earners by any stretch.

Re: Merson's transfer ratings
If you stand still you go backward.

They have a good team but a thin squad and there's no excuse not to bring some players in with the money they allegedly have.

HOWEVER, there's no point spending money if you're not going to spend it wisely. Man U are chucking money round stupidly and spending it like it's water on anyone they can get in. Schweinsteiger in particular will be a poor buy.
